I recently acquired the Lapbook 15.6″ S15 Full HD Windows 11 Home Laptop – 12GB RAM, 512GB Storage, Intel Quad for my sister, who is completing work in data science, and it has exceeded all our expectations in every way. As a data scientist, having a reliable and powerful laptop is crucial, and this machine ticks all the right boxes.Performance: The laptop boasts an impressive combination of hardware components. The multi-core processor and ample RAM make running resource-intensive machine learning algorithms and data analysis tasks a breeze. Whether training deep neural networks or handling large datasets, this laptop takes it quickly.Display: She reported that the high-resolution display is a visual delight. She says the vibrant colours and the text are sharp, making data visualisation and analysis pleasurable. The ample screen real estate allows me to open multiple data analysis tools and charts simultaneously without feeling cramped.Portability: Despite its powerful internals, this laptop is surprisingly portable. It’s sleek and lightweight, making it easy to carry to meetings or work on the go. The long battery life means she can work hours without worrying about finding an outlet.Storage: The generous storage capacity ensures I can keep all my datasets, code, and projects in one place. This is a huge time-saver, as I no longer need to transfer files between external drives constantly.Connectivity: The laptop has various ports, including USB-C, SD card slots, etc., ensuring compatibility with multiple data science equipment and accessories. The Wi-Fi connectivity is fast and stable, essential for downloading large datasets and collaborating with colleagues online.Build Quality: The laptop’s build quality is top-notch. Having purchased a Fusion 5 laptop previously (T90B+Pro) in April 2022, which has performed well for over a year, had no qualms in ordering another Fusion5 product.OverallThe Lapbook 15.6″ S15 Pro appears to be an excellent laptop for a tad over £250 and compares well against my work laptop. It’s a well put together machine though it is a little bit bit heavier than I expected, but that’s a minor thing as is a replacement for a desktop PC and wont be carted from place to place. Was surprised that the laptop is not branded as a Fusion 5 product.Pro’sKeyboard has a nice feel to it, but as with other reviews, is not a UK standard keyboard and has a rubber cover, which does limit backlighting, but overall is not an issue for me.Metal (Aluminium) skin on both keyboard area and back of screen give this machine a sleek look.Screen is very good; bright and clear, with vey small bezel (only around 5mm) appears to be larger than it really is. Performs well with video.Ports are as described, 2 USB 3 ports (one each side) , 1 UBS-C port, Micro HDMI port, headphone socket and SD card slot. Power port is small and same as on previous purchase (which was a minor concern), but have not had issues with this. Cord on PSU is not particularly long, so an extension cable is likely to be needed, but this is a minor thing.Finger print sensor is a good addition for security and appears to work well.Removable camera is OK (not brilliant/not terrible), simply slips into place using magnets on the top of the screen when using and hides away in it’s own slot in the base of the machine when not in use.Plenty of storage on the 512 GB SSD drive and the 12 GB of DDR4 RAM allows the machine to boot to login screen in just a few seconds. From pressing power button to actually being able to use the laptop take under 15 seconds.Windows 11 is as expected, many new features to work with.Con’sOnly things I have found that are not brilliant on the laptop are the touchpad and speakers.Touchpad is very sensitive even on medium sensitivity and cursor can jump about the screen a bit. I don’t like touchpads at the best of times and always use a wireless mouse in any case so this is not an issue for me. Touchpad sensitivity can be adjusted in the settings.Built in speakers are what they are, it’s a laptop not a hi-fi system, so I didn’t expects high fidelity sound. Sounds tend to be a bit tinny and not particularly loud but have heard worse from laptops and tablets, this could easily be rectified easily with use of a Bluetooth speaker. Sounds are really quite good through headphones.The trial version of Office 365 is installed, but I needed to uninstall so that I could install my full version of Office 2019 Professional. This was a bit confusing as it looked like it was installing office 365 again, but after install is listed as Office 2019.Battery life appears to be OK, used for about 3 hours and battery indicates that is has about 50% charge left.
