I recently purchased the Aero 17″ 4K laptop, primarily for AI work, and I’d like to share my thoughts on this machine. As someone who typically uses MacBooks or desktop PCs, I found myself needing a more portable solution for my travels. The Aero 17″ offered a great deal with its CUDA capabilities, which are essential for my AI projects. It’s a significant shift from my usual preference, but having everything set up locally rather than relying on cloud solutions for AI work is a major advantage. From a hardware perspective, the Aero 17″ is like a portable PC that requires constant plugging in. It’s not as mobile as my MacBook Air, which I still travel with for lighter tasks. The laptop demands an external keyboard and a laptop folding stand for better ergonomics, primarily because it tends to get very hot. The GPU, when in use, makes the laptop quite noisy. It’s a bit annoying, though somewhat expected given the laptop’s power. For AI tasks that require a powerful GPU, the Aero 17″ excels. However, for more general use, I still lean towards MacBooks for their superior build quality. A notable advantage of the Aero is the upgradability of RAM and NVMe drives. This feature is particularly appealing compared to MacBooks, where the SSDs are soldered onto the board. It’s a cost-effective way to future-proof your machine. In summary, the Aero 17″ 4K is a mixed bag. It’s a powerhouse for AI and machine learning tasks, thanks to its robust GPU support. Yet, it falls short in terms of portability and user-friendliness compared to lighter laptops. If you need the specific capabilities it offers (like CUDA support and upgradability), it’s a solid choice. But for everyday tasks, there might be better, more user-friendly options available.

The laptop is very good, the screen is stunning with perfect blacks and could get up to 617 nits for mine on hdr on. The keyboard is pretty decent definitely on the soft side and decent key travel. The laptop is surprisingly light and battery could hold about 6 hours on moderate use like youtube and 7+ hours on light use like browsing. The aspect ratio of the screen is perfect 16 inch is just perfect on 16:10 you will feel somehow like a 17 inch screen without sacrificing portability since it still fits on my small bag so pretty decent. The speakers are loud but lacks bass very much and might sound a bit irritating on high frequencys, definitely sounds a bit thin. But overall very good performance on all sides and the cooling is phenomenal i got 50 degrees ish average on rainbow six siege on 3840 x 2400 high and average 60fps with vsync set to 1 frame so definitely cool to play games amazing machine but drawbacks are on the speaker thats about it, the rest is very well made even the flex on the keyboard is very minimal i cant even seem to flex it unless you apply a really heavy force so robust build quality

I like that this laptop doesn’t look like it’s something a 15-year old would drool after. The specs are fine, though it is lacking a bit in the wattage department. At first, I was having some real issues running the machine with the installed software, particularly with Bluetooth. I decided to wipe the drive and do a clean install of Windows and went to the Gigabyte website to get the software I needed, loaded the proper Intel and Nvidia drivers and haven’t had any issues with how the computer runs since then.Value-wise, I got a great deal on this over 2022 Black Friday as it was almost half off. I’m assuming that had a lot to do with the (completely undeserved) 1-star ratings that previous owners gave the machine.I use this computer primarily for work with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere for media I create on a 45 megapixel Canon R5. This computer handles the work without any problems and in fact, it’s been a better performer than a friend’s Macbook Pro, and for that he’s pretty upset.I wouldn’t use this laptop for gaming. It gets too hot and the fans get too loud. I tried it for a while, and though it handles the games brilliantly (GTA V and RDR2 @ 4K highest settings), the fan goes a bit crazy and the thermals are too high. I used a Cooler Master fan base on the laptop while I was playing, and though it helped, I found games to be a lot more enjoyable using an older desktop rig.My only other gripe is the lack of ports on this machine, but I use a hub most of the time and while I’m going mobile (on international trips), the only thing that gets hooked into this machine are the camera and a backup solid state drive, so it hasn’t been a real issue for me.If you can deal with the computer’s shortcomings mentioned above and as long as you do the clean Windows re-install and associated updates before getting to work, then you really won’t find a much better computer out there that’s from 2022. If I paid full-price, this would get 4-stars, but since I got it from Amazon at a song, it’s getting 5.

In the gaming world, the lure of high specs can often be alluring, and that’s what drew me to the GIGABYTE AERO 17 YE5. But, as I quickly discovered, stellar specs on paper don’t always translate to a satisfying gaming experience.Let’s start with the ports. In today’s age of extensive peripherals and devices, the lack of versatile ports on this machine is a significant misstep. They ship an adapter for even the most basic connections. This feels like an unnecessary hassle, especially for a laptop in this price range.Next up is the display. Yes, it’s a 4K/UHD miniLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, which sounds amazing in theory. However, the brightness of the screen is overpowering, to say the least. Even after tinkering with the settings, the brightness makes visuals appear washed out, compromising the gaming experience and causing unnecessary eye strain. The most concerning issue, however, is the heat. The AERO 17 YE5 gets alarmingly hot, and this isn’t just during heavy gaming sessions. Even during less demanding tasks like web browsing, the laptop starts to feel like it might spontaneously combust. This raises serious concerns about the laptop’s cooling system and its potential longevity. Now all of this is also backed by the 56 minute battery life for basic web browsing!
